Updates to SpinDoc

December 15th, 2009 by Joel Friedman

We’ve just made a small update that will make navigating between the SpinDoc and the rules and authorities it contains much easier.   For those not familiar, your SpinDoc is like a private legal pad.  As you browse through rules, you can collect the authorities you are interested in by clicking “add to SpinDoc” when you roll over the authority.   But SpinDoc is more than just a collection of authorities.   When you add an authority it will also add the rule it supports.   If that rule is already in your SpinDoc then the authority will be added to that rule in BlueBook order.  For every rule in your SpinDoc, there is a separate paragraph stating the rule followed by the authorities you’ve selected, all in proper BlueBook format.

While browsing rules and authorities you can jump to your SpinDoc by clicking on the SpinDoc link or any of the SpinDoc icons  SpinDoc that indicate that the authority is in your SpinDoc.  With the new enhancement we’ve just released, going the other way – from SpinDoc to rules and authorities – is just as easy.  When in your SpinDoc, when you click on the statement of a rule or authority, you will see a list of options to either navigate to the top of the rule page or directly to the authority.

You can also delete the rule or the authority from you SpinDoc.   (Note that removing a rule also removes its authorities.)   And for authorities from cases, you can view options for reading the case.
