Spindle Law Interviews: Kevin Gerson

Kevin Gerson is the Director of the Law Library at UCLA, where he also teaches Advanced Legal Research. Gerson has a B.A. in Philosophy from UCLA, a Masters in Information Management Systems from UC Berkeley, and graduated summa cum laude from Stanford Law School. Gerson was a tax associate at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in Palo Alto and a state tax analyst for CCH, Inc. He came to UCLA in 1988. He has authored several articles on legal research and electronic resources, and contributed to several CCH publications.

CALI’s Innovative Law Library Tours

The smart folks at the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI), who help law schools, students and faculty harness technology for better teaching and learning, are working on a series of electronic law library tours, collectively called LibTour. The tours count on users having smartphones, using QR codes to link to audio information about important legal research sources, like the Code of Federal Regulations or Corpus Juris Secundum. Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, Executive Director of WITNESS This is the fourth interview in our series featuring inspiring and inspired lawyers.

Yvette J. Alberdingk Thijm is the Executive Director of WITNESS and leads its team of human rights activists in fulfilling its mission:  using video to open the eyes of the world to human rights violations.

Co-founded by musician Peter Gabriel, WITNESS partners with human rights organizations around the world to bring the power of video into their existing campaigns and advance human rights causes around the world.  For example, videos from these collaborations have helped shed light on the systemic repression of ethnic minorities in Burma, prosecute recruiters of child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and pass the first law protecting elders from abuse in the U.S. (more…)
