Join Piper Hoffman in Building Spindle’s Employment Discrimination Section
April 4th, 2011 by Laura Bergus
Piper Hoffman, one of our latest Spindle Law contributors, is currently building out the employment discrimination section on Spindle Law. As a lawyer at the New York City employment firm of Outten & Golden, Piper spent many years representing plaintiffs in employment law disputes.
Spindle fits right into Piper’s work writing about employment law and discrimination. “Contributing to Spindle Law helps me to organize my thinking about the law in a very clear and systematic way that reinforces my knowledge of the doctrines I work with. There is also synergy in the other direction: when I come across a point in my practice that I know is not yet on Spindle, I can quickly add it to the site.”
Piper is a Brooklyn resident and Chicago native. In addition to her expertise in employment law, Piper is devoted to animal rights law. Between her clerkship for federal district Judge Gladys Kessler in Washington D.C. and joining Outten & Golden, she worked as a staff attorney at The Animal Legal Defense Fund. She is vegan and participates in activities of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Legal Issues Pertaining to Animals.
Piper spent seven years at Outten & Golden, the last two as a partner, where her cases included a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination against Morgan Stanley that settled for $54 million. She left private practice to direct the Advocacy Department at The Partnership for the Homeless in New York City. Piper then returned to Outten & Golden where she works part-time. Otherwise, she is working on a book about feminism and the law. “The book is about how feminism is dying prematurely, and how feminists used the law to advance women’s rights towards goals that women today are abandoning.” You can follow Piper’s writing about employment law and more at http://piperhoffman.com.
